April 2010

Dear Friends

It is with great sadness that we record the death of Fr James Brown our Parish Priest and President on 6th April 2010.  He came to Holy Nativity from Australia in November 2002 and his ministry ended in November 2009 when he became too ill to continue.  He left a lasting legacy and will not be forgotten.  May he rest in peace.

We also record the deaths of Fr John Bradley, Glynis Warren, Margaret Edwards, and David Randall,

~ we commend them to God’s safe keeping sure in the knowledge that we will all meet again in the nearer Presence of Almighty God.

Congratulations to Clara Giblett and Fr. John Piper who have both celebrated their Centenary, to Marian and Ted Leslie (nee Dyer) on the occasion of their Golden Wedding, to Joan Cocks on her 90th Birthday and Fr John Baker having reached his 80th Birthday.

Fr Gerard Irvine has moved into St Mary’s Nursing Home, St George’s Park, Ditchling Common, East Sussex, RH15 0SF and would welcome postcards from his friends ~ Rosemary is selling the house and moving to a flat nearby.

The 22nd Annual Reunion Mass will take place on Saturday 5th June 2010 at 12 noon and will be followed by the usual quick A.G.M. and a leisurely Lunch.  I know that you will be delighted to know that our Preacher will be Bishop Keith Newton a past President and now Vice President of H.N.F.  Bishop Keith is an incredibly busy man and we are delighted that he has spared time to be with us at the Reunion ~ do please make every effort to be with us and complete and return the attached form now.

On Sunday 27th September 2009 a thanksgiving memorial statue of St Vincent de Paul was blessed in the presence of The Lord Mayor of Bristol, Mother Elizabeth Mary S.C., Oblates and Friends.

Sunday 18th July 2010 Gordon Barge will host a Tea Party at 791 Whitchurch Lane.

Saturday 24th July ~ Concert ~ Unity Singers ~ in aid of Holy Nativity Friends

You may not have read that the Arnos Vale Cemetery has spent thousands of pounds restoring the graves, chapels, paths, tours etc. and is now well worth a visit before of course the final visit!

We live in very challenging and unsettling times and at Holy Nativity we continue to closely follow the pattern set by our predecessors namely to maintain the Catholic tradition within the Church of England.  Please continue to pray for our Parish now in interregnum, for Bishop Keith and Bishop Andrew and for members of the General Synod as they meet in July 2010 to make momentous and difficult decisions.

 Sincerely

 Bernard
